A Message from Professor Alfred J. Andrea of the WHA
The Fall 2014 elections of the World History Association will fill three Executive Council positions. In order to identify the best possible candidates for these posts, the Nominations Committee of the WHA respectfully requests the assistance of the Association’s members.
The Nominations Committee seeks persons with a demonstrated commitment to world history studies and to the WHA, who are willing to devote their time and talent to furthering the well being of both the field and the Association. All nominees must be members in good standing of the WHA with a record of active participation in the activities of the Association and/or its regional affiliates.
Executive Council posts are for a three-year term, commencing 1 January 2015. Persons elected to these positions will be expected to attend and participate fully in the annual Meeting of the Executive Council, which is held on the day preceding commencement of the WHA’s annual conference (normally held during the last week of June or early July). Future conferences are scheduled for Savannah, GA (2015), Ghent, Belgium (2016), and Boston, MA (2017).
Executive Council members are further expected to offer timely advice on all matters discussed and decided on by the Executive Council in its e-mail and telephone communications throughout the year. All elected officials of the WHA also serve on one or more of the association’s committees. Put frankly, a WHA office brings with it a degree of commitment of time and resources.
The Nominations Committee welcomes any and all WHA members to suggest a member or members whom they deem worthy of consideration for nomination and possible election. A member may also place her/his own name in the pool. All names should be submitted to the Nominations Committee chair, Alfred J. Andrea aandrea@uvm.edu, on or before 30 August 2014, and the sooner the better. It would be helpful if the person offering a submission also supply the e-mail address/es of the person/s so named.
Each person whose name has been given to the Committee will be contacted on a rolling basis and asked to submit a formal application consisting of a CV and brief statement of service, purpose, and vision. The Committee will then choose nominees for these three posts.
Please give this process your careful attention and assist your association in its search for leaders who will serve with distinction.
